Conference Season is Here—Let’s Talk About Sustainable Ways to Show Up
It’s likely you’ve got a few conferences lined up on your calendar—we do, too. You’ll find us at the Converge Mental Health Summit, the Startup Canada Tour, Inventures, the Calgary Chamber of Commerce’s Mental Health Summit, and more.
We’re excited. We’re also realistic: it’s a lot.
The energy of these events is incredible—learning, networking, presenting, connecting—but it can also be draining, especially when you’re juggling day-to-day work at the same time.
So how do we keep showing up without burning out?
Here are a few tips we’re leaning into this season:
1. Be Intentional With Your Energy
Every session isn’t for you—and that’s okay. Choose events that align with your goals or values, and allow yourself space between them. Give yourself permission to say no or step out when needed.
2. Schedule Buffer Time
Try not to stack your days too tight. Build in time before and after conferences (or even in between sessions) to regroup. A quiet walk, a nourishing meal, or a quick nap can make all the difference.
3. Have an Anchor Person or System
Whether it’s a teammate you can debrief with or a set of notes you check in on daily, find your anchor. It’s easy to lose track of your “why” in all the excitement. Having someone—or something—to ground you can help you stay centered.
4. Hydrate. Eat. Move.
Basic, but powerful. Pack snacks, refill your water bottle, stretch, and move your body. These small practices help your nervous system stay regulated through all the stimulation.
5. Reflect and Integrate
Don’t rush to the next thing. Take time to process what you’ve learned. What did you hear that moved you? What relationships do you want to follow up on? Integration is just as important as participation.
6. Name What You’re Feeling
Sometimes, all it takes is naming it: “I’m overwhelmed,” “I’m excited,” “I feel pulled in ten directions.” Naming your experience helps normalize it—and opens up room for support.
You don’t have to show up to everything, do everything, or be everything to everyone. Pace yourself. Let your presence be full, not frantic.
We’ll be out there too—connecting, learning, and holding space for all that conference season brings. See you soon?
